BRAC Update

Via CNN breaking news (hence, no link as of yet) - Pres. Bush has endorsed the BRAC commission's recommendations. Hence, New London and Portsmouth are out of the woods, as it is unlikely Congress will reject the list.

Ah, Spam...not just the official lunchmeat of the Aloha State...

Speaking of BRAC, just before I left the shipyard here, I heard the Shipyard Commander tell a "townhall" meeting of employees something that they need to take to heart. He urged them (in light of our near brush with BRAC and our poor efficiency) to assume Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard was on the next BRAC list already. Work like it is, he said...it's the only way to keep PHNSY off this list.

While I feel that location is the strongest point Pearl has going for it, he made one other really good point...the location could and would be filled by a civilian yard, like Newport News or EB. The capability would remain, the facilities would remain, but the workers really don't want to have to transition to non-federal jobs, do they?

I hope his words get through to 'em...for Hawaii's sake.

Voila! The spam is gone... leaving PBS and Rob's comments looking silly without the context of the previously-posted spamment.
