Given 4 torpedo tubes on the average sub, this could have been announced as "firing tube 5" :)
I'd pay good money to see a video of that...you hear the phrase "sh*t storm", but this gives it an entirely new meaning...

Rob, it was quite the show for this newbe sailor at the time, gave me an early respect for air pressure systems.
I think your "Rickover" story is a classic. I can just imagine the Duty Officer giving the 1MC announcement in that typical shipboard deadpan voice.
