Russian Mini-Sub Crew Ordered To Surface

(Crossposted from The Online Magazine Formerly Known As Rob's Blog)

Sources in the Russian Pacific Fleet say that the AS-28 mini submarine crew had been given orders to start the emersion process, RIA Novosti information agency reported at 05:15am Moscow time (02:15am GMT). The process is supposed to take no more than 5 minutes, sources in the Russian Navy are quoted as saying. The source expects the operation to start within the nearest half of an hour (i.e. before 06:00msk).

Based on the times given in this article, they should be up any minute (barring difficulties).

It is 0630 Moscow time, still waiting.

Hopefully the Brit ROV having to surface before all the netting was cleared off the AS-28 is not hampering her surfacing. Everything was cut, but Interfax made it sound like there was still some removal to do.

Still no word since that 0515 Moscow time posting. It has been 80 minutes, and Interfax and MosNews have both been rather timely up until now. I am starting to wonder...

So, do you think it's going to come up soon...

We can only hope. The fact that no news source is yet trumpeting the success of the rescue efforts is somewhat disconcerting.

Yes indeed. My prayers go out to them.
